Use a Live Face Swap as Your Webcam in Any App (OBS Virtual Camera Guide)

FaceLive renders in a browser window. OBS turns that window into a webcam every app can pick. Ten minutes of setup, then it just shows up in your camera list.

On Windows 11? Skip OBS. FaceLive Camera adds a “FaceLive Camera” webcam that WhatsApp, Zoom, Teams and Meet can pick directly. Download it free.

The idea in one sentence

FaceLive renders your swapped face in a browser window; OBS Studio captures that window and publishes it as OBS Virtual Camera, a webcam that any app on your computer can select. The app never knows the difference.

This route works for apps that only accept a camera, not a screen share: WhatsApp Desktop, FaceTime on Mac, Skype, Messenger, Telegram, browser-based meeting tools and most dating or interview platforms.

What you need

  • A laptop or desktop with a webcam (Windows 10/11, macOS 13 or newer, or Linux)
  • Chrome, Edge or Firefox for the FaceLive studio
  • OBS Studio 30 or newer (free, obsproject.com)
  • A stable connection; see the internet speed guide

Step 1: get the swap running

Open the studio, allow your camera and pick a character or upload a face you have permission to use. Wait until the output panel shows your swapped face moving with you. the main walkthrough covers this in detail.

Switch the studio to OBS mode. It shows the output alone on a clean background, which makes capture easier and avoids cropping out buttons.

Step 2: capture the window in OBS

  1. In OBS, add a source: Window Capture (Windows/Linux) or macOS Screen Capture → Window (Mac).
  2. Pick the browser window running the studio.
  3. Right-click the source, choose Transform → Fit to screen, then crop the edges (hold Alt/Option while dragging) until only the face video remains.
  4. Set the canvas to 1280×720 in Settings → Video for the best balance of sharpness and bandwidth.

Step 3: start the virtual camera

Click Start Virtual Camera in the OBS controls panel. On a Mac the first run asks you to allow the system extension in System Settings → Privacy & Security; approve it and restart OBS.

Step 4: select it in your app

In Zoom, Teams, WhatsApp Desktop, FaceTime or Discord, open the video settings and choose OBS Virtual Camera as the camera. Your swapped face appears. Keep your real microphone selected as the audio input; OBS only replaces video.

Keep it smooth

  • Close other tabs on the studio browser window so it keeps priority.
  • Do not minimise the studio window; some systems stop rendering minimised windows. Move it behind other windows instead.
  • If the camera list does not show OBS, follow the OBS Virtual Camera troubleshooting guide.

FAQ

Does this work with FaceTime? Yes on macOS 13 or newer with OBS 30+, after approving the camera extension once.

Can I use this on my phone? Not directly. Phones cannot run OBS Virtual Camera; use the studio on a laptop for calls, or mirror via screen share where the app allows it.

Does the app see my real face? No. The app only receives what OBS sends, which is the swapped output.

Will it work in browser meeting tools like Google Meet? Yes, browser tools list OBS Virtual Camera like any other webcam. the Zoom and Google Meet guide has the Meet specifics.
